Episode 2: Elvis Presley The Searcher Part 1 Discussion

In this episode, we are talking about the critically acclaimed HBO documentary:  Elvis Presley the Searcher Part One.  It takes you from Elvis’ humble beginnings through the Army years.  We go in depth about the influences–both musically and culturally of Elvis in his early childhood in Tupelo and Memphis.  The impact that Sam Phillips and Col. Parker had on Elvis that shaped the early part of is career, and finally his relationship with his mother Gladys and how her death shaped the rest of his life.  We thoroughly enjoyed this documentary and highly recommend you checking it out whether your an Elvis super fan or just a fan of music in general!

Episode 3: Elvis Presley The Searcher Part 2 Discussion

In this episode we are continuing our discussion of the critically acclaimed HBO documentary:  Elvis Presley the Searcher Part Two.  Where as Part One of the documentary focused on the ‘rise’ of Elvis, Part Two focuses on the ‘decline’ of Elvis both professionally and personally.  The second half of this documentary picks up with Elvis leaving the Army and continues through the end of his life.  It focuses on his later movies, TV appearances (especially the 1968 Comeback Special), the Vegas years, and his declining health both mentally and physically.  We go in depth about Elvis’ movie career, how Col. Parker exploited Elvis, how Elvis seemed to always be searching for purpose and meaning, and how the death of his mother and the drug use eventually led to his decline.  But also we wanted to focus on the impact Elvis had on the entire Entertainment industry and how he is still relevant and beloved to this day.  Elvis is more popular today, some 41 years after his death than when he was alive.  Long Live The King!!!!
